The “T-Top” pickup has a “T” embossed on the pickup bobbin, allegedly to
indicate polarity. I have heard stories ranging from “early ’70s only” to
“it’s actually a Dirty Fingers pickup”. I tend to believe the former, since
the DFs sounded crappy and mine sounds nice. Also, I believe the one I have
came out of a ’70s LP Custom. They make a big deal about these things in the
vintage market, and attach a pretty hefty price, also. That’s why I was
wondering about IDing by the # on the base. How many different varieties of
HB was Gibson making circa 1981-82?
