I found a solution for dealing with cheap guitar stands that eat
guitar finishes. I was given some stuff called “Presto Felt.”
This comes on a 9 x 12 sheet and is self sticking. It is very easy
to cut pieces and fit them to the surfaces that come into contact
with the guitar. The material is very stretchy so you do not have
to cut it inorder to get around curves. The adhesive bonds very
well. Hopefully the felt does not disintegrate guitars. I suspect
that it can be found at fabric or crafts stores. The manufacturer
is S.H. Kunin Felt Co, Worcester, MA 01615-0014.

I had a number of guitars on these stands. It appears that one
ones that had the most trouble are heavier instruments with
nitrocelulose finishes. I took a particular hit on a Les Paul and
a gorgeous custom shop ES335. I got these stands from Musicians
Friend. With “Friends” like these…
