Hello Danny,
I can give you some information about the ES 335 Pro. I have an old Gibson
catalogue where the ES 335 Pro is described in. Here it is:
Finishes: antique sunburst, cherry red
Pickups: 2 dirty fingers
Body (top/back/rim): maple
Neck: mape
Fingerboard: rosewood
You wrote your guitar hasn’t the original knobs – it is pictured with black
“speed knobs”.
Someone at Gibson wrote me, that Gibson usually produced about 2000 pieces of th
ES 335 models per year.
I owe a ES 335 Dot (1982) myself. I really love that gutar and it is my
absolutely favoured guitar (I have others, too, but I like the ES 335 best). I
know the ES 335 Pro, too. I can remember that I tried one when I bought my ES in
1983. As far as I can see, the only differences are (1) that the Pro has a maple
neck while the Dot neck is mahogany, (2) the pickups and (3) the Pro has a
taller headstock. However, in 1983 I didn’t realize that. I just chose the Dot
because of the colour. Mine is blond (natural – now a beautiful yellow tone) and
I liked it better than the Pro’s sunburst.
I’m interested in evereything about ES 335 guitars. In case you get further
information, it would be kind to contact me. Certainly you are welcome to
contact me just to talk about guitars or if you need any information about the
ES 335 Dot.
Regards
Klaus
