Most cities of any size have printing shops that will make decals. “Short
run of custom decals” means “Make me a few special things that are a
unique process” to a printer, which gets translated as “I’m willing to
pay a lot of money for something odd and you’ll never see me again” in
most cases.
You can make your own decals with Dyna Art Designs’ “Toner Transfer
System” papers. Order the sheets (DigiKey has them), and find a
printing/copying/photo place that will print on your paper in their color
laser copier. Make the print, then spray a couple of coats of clear
lacquer on the sheet and let it dry. Voila, decals. The paper is about
$1.50 a sheet in 5-sheet packages. Color laser copies are about $1-$2
each.
