I have great luck taking 1/2 a can of Mint Skoal and a couple of scoops of
Coffee, throw this in a pot of boiling water, then strain through a coffee
filter into a spay/mist bottle. Now evenly mist the grille cloth,wait an
hour do it, again and finish by facing grill to a wall heater for a few
minutes. A hairdryer will do fine also.
I use the old “Marshall type” salt&pepper grille on the amps I build, and
this process makes them look like an evenly browned straight cabinet from
the late 60’s.

7 parts denatured alcohol, 1 part Zinzer orange shellac. Apply with a
paint brush.
Perfect.
