Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets with Sam Meyers at the Turning Point in Piermont, NY.
February 25, 2003
I was glad to see Sam Meyers kicking ass at the Turning point the other night. I had seen him at the Bottom Line in NYC a few years ago and he was not feeling well. This night, there were no signs of Sam slowing down even though he had celibrated his 67th birthday a few days earlier.
The usual gang of idiots (My brother, myself, Carlos Colina and even Cousin Joey) were at the show.
I'll start out with Sam's rig. He uses two bassman's, one is being miced by
the other. Sam is a chain smoker and may blow that hard, and I am thinking he
needs the two bassman's to get the sound out over Anson's fancy rig. Sam uses
a JT-30 with a ceramic cartridge. He uses a 2501F connector on a guitar cord
to get to the amp.
The first bassman looks like a badly recovered Tweed bassman. The second may
be a repro, but it is funky enough to be original. Both have new handles. It
is impolite to take a screw driver to the amps on stage, so I can't tell you
their age and paternity.
Anson uses a cusom amp that he endorces it is a Doctor
Z Amp.
Here are some pictures of Sam blowing harp for the audience. As you can see
we had the front row and I passed the camera around to get some good angles.
Here's some shots of Anson and his 54 strat.
Now the rest of the band:
Now the usual gang of idots and harp geeks.
Here I am annoying Sam.
Here's Larry Graham annoying Sam.
